A little side note: I was in NYC on September 11th 2001 and witnessed that terrible event firsthand. From my vantage point in Brooklyn while I was watching the first tower burn (where thoughts of this movie immediately came to mind) I saw the second plane hit one of the towers...it was pretty crazy...based on the direction it was heading in from, my first immediate thought was that it was one of those huge cargo planes that drops water and chemicals on forest fires...
unfortunately that wasn't the case.
I still feel the shock of when it smashed into that tower as a gut-wrenching pang in the bottom of my stomach. To go from an optimistic "Wow! Someone's on top of putting that fire out!" to "OMG! What the fuck is going on here!?" in a matter of mere seconds was (and still is) utterly devastating!
If you can believe it (in retrospect) a pretty funny, 'only in NY' moment occurred shortly after the second crash...two elderly white haired old ladies were sitting on their front stoop gossiping about the situation but, from their viewpoint hadn't seen what had just happened. When I started screaming out expletive curses they asked me what was going on? Telling them another plane had just hit the other building...this frail sweet grandmotherly woman, easily in her early 80's suddenly yells out: "GODDAMN IT! Is the FUCKING FAA on FUCKING GODDAMN vacation today or what!? This is GODDAMN FUCKING BULLSHIT!!!"
