This album is worth it for the last two cuts alone; Fred dancing away a storm...providing percussion to Oscar Peterson on piano! Look at that cover. One word sums this guy up: class!

(a few songs have some 'S, K & P' (Snap, Krackle & Pop) going on but it's not that bad...while other tracks are pristine...go figure.)

  2. Interesting post Rocket. I have long owned a single Verve CD of this session assuming it was complete but your post has several tracks not on it. A little googling revealed that both your post and my CD are truncated versions of a 4 LP set of this session with 38 tracks.

The good news (for obsessive completists) is that a 2CD set with all tracks is easily downloadable as are (for obsessive authenticists) the front and back covers of the original LP box set.

Your post not only fills in the release history of this session but also has a great cover pic of the always unassuming 'ordinary Joe' Fred. Thank you Rocket.

  3. Hey paulvinyl! Thank you. Holy smokes! 28 tracks!? Unblievable. THAT'S what I like about this place, between guys like you and Philip (as well as Bob w/ his personal little anecdotes) I really feel like I'm learning something about music and what not.

(Now if only someone could teach me about the stock market and/or horse racing I might finally be able to make a few bucks ;) ).

  4. Thank you for sharing this gem. Although his original recordings of the thirties are irreplaceable, this session does have a lovely, relaxed, warm atmosphere...and his voice was still in splendid shape.
I especially love the dancing tracks and some of the slower numbers like "Foggy Day" and "Change Partners".
    Thanks so much!
