Thank You One and All (and even 'Anonymous')

Wow. The last few days worth of comments have really made me re-evaluate things. The majority of replies from the previous post has reconfirmed to me why I share these old vinyl lps: There are a lot of neat people out there who still 'dig' this stuff. I can't tell you how much I appreciate hearing the (mostly)  encouraging words from so many of you. Even a few insulting 'Anonymous' comments that I chose NOT to publish helped to shine a light on the situation for me.

I'm sorry if I at times I come off as a whiner or 'drama queen'. I shouldn't really care what some 'rude' people have to say. I don't share just to hear good things and platitudes and I really want to keep as open a forum as possible. I love it when people share an anecdote, or relate what the music might mean to them. I feel it enriches ALL of our lives. Now I'll just have to play editor and develop a thicker skin. (btw - I didn't 'publish' a few comments from good friends because even though their hearts were in the right place I didn't want to give the jerks any sense of justification and/or 'ammunition'.)

I'd like to thank every single one of you individually. Seriously! You folks are really a bunch of what? I don't know! Ok...ready? Thank You: paulvinyl, Eliot Wilder, vilstef, Philip, GSW, The Macs, DonHo57, Keith Horner, Christo70, Siriami, Jim, Iggy, Bob, Your (Our) Pal Doug, Muff Diver, jailhouserockman, Peter F, and (of course) Isbum/Rizbum...as well as the 'Anonymous' folks who were kind enough to leave names: John, Great Anonymous Music Lover, Scott (in Torrance),  'not bad' anonymous, and Rick G (in Canyon Country).

For anyone interested; if you want to leave me your email addresses  I'll hang onto them for future reference PLUS I have this crazy 'sharing'  idea I might try and implement in the very near future...

Okey doke that's it for now...If you go to the comments section of this post you'll find a link to a song that sort of sums up how I feel. (Just be warned - it's one of my 'bizarro' ones.)

  4. @ The Great Anonymous Music Lover (from Vermont) - I don't believe it! I do NOT have the cd BUT I JUST THIS WEEK picked up an unopened copy of that very same lp in a junk store for two bucks!!! If you'd like that version I'd consider it an honor to make a copy in recognition of your dad's valiant service during WWII...just say the word. (btw I LOVED that film as a kid!)

    1. Hello Rocket, Funny how life happens. My dad and I would certainaly would like to have this soundtrack if you are able at some point to post this album. In Sept 26 thru the 29th 2012 my father will have his 66th Army Reuion of The First Special Service Force in Washington D.C. We are planning on going. I am sure that there may not be many more of these reunions as the men are now in there late age ranges of 87 to 96. Many Thank-You's from Vermont. The Great Anonymous Music Lover (from Vermont).

    2. http://www.firstspecialserviceforce.net/History.html A great link for The FSSF to share if you want too There are also lots of books about the FSSF over the years. One of our favorite FSSF books is called "KENNETH" By Susan Lentz. Another book called "THE SUPERCOMMANDOS" First Special Service Force, 1942-1944 An Illustrated History By Robert Todd Ross is an outstanding read. I hope that you are able to read some of theses books if they interest you. Many Thanks again. Stan The Great Anonymous Music Lover (from Vermont)

  7. Hey Rocket - missed your other post. Hope you keep us the good work! I certainly do like visiting here and reading your comments. Why don't you turn off anonymous commenting (to suggest the obvious)?

  10. Here's what DonHo57 had to say:

    "DonHo57 said...
Glad your spirits are lifted, RM, you got loads of friends out here and only a rotten Anon or two. Those people need to go join Anonymouses Anonymous and get all the crap out of their system.

    Play on!"

...he had left his email address on that comment and I wasn't sure if he wanted it out there. So in the future IF you do decide to leave an address just let me know if you mind it appearing or not.

    Thanks,

    Rocket

(also a thank you to JohnnyLovesRecords for bringing this 'privacy issue' to my attention!)

  11. Hello GSW, Yes this would be great to also have the CD Digital version of soundtrack. I have been told that the CD has a few more old songs on it also. My father and I Thank-You very much if you can help out on this request. There is a new song that came out this year called "The V-42" it can be found on You-Tube. My father recived a CD from the Artist this year. It is quite a song well worth hearing and it also gives a great tribute to the men of the FSSF who had to fight for all of our freedoms. But shall I add also to the more current Special Forces People and all of our great folks who are in all the Forces serving our country. Have a great year. 13. Hey Rocket,

Just got back from vacation this weekend and caught up online. Breaks my heart to see your goodwill jerked around by an e-bully, but I hope the outpouring of love and support diminished the negativity - and outshone it with some sincere and heartfelt support. Even when folks don't download here, they can always enjoy your commentary about this often-forgotten music and all its related topics, and find themselves enriched by the upbeat atmosphere you share here. As long as it's fun for you, I hope you can do what you do with a your usual sense of fun and friendship. But as much as what you and this blog bring to our day, I think none of your fans would want you to continue this forum if it brings you down. Most of us understood that when poor Isbum went through the same crisis. There are people, good and bad, on the other side of these keyboards. And the good ones, like you, matter more than the blog. Good luck. xo luckymike

  15. Philip had this to say:
"Hi Rocket I'm thrilled by your change of heart and, like Buster, suggest the big switch off for anonymous comments...but then the wonderful exchange above which led to the posting of 'The Devil's Brigade' would not have taken place. Ah me."
