Thanks for sharing this obituary and LP tribute. What a great artist. As we lose all these people from such a great era of music, I sometimes wonder, who are making their mark today to replace them? There's definitely talent out there, but it seems like the really great unsung people: session players, arrangers, soloists, orchestrators and of course, composers...they're literally a dying breed. RIP Mr. Strange.
@Rocket From Mars First of all I'm glad you reopened your blog: I really missed Then I want to thank you for sharing this LP Billy Strange that I owned as a boy and I had lost It was and is still a marvelous lp of spy themes :in those years was not easy to find in Italy
@ luckymike - I totally agree with your assesment. My wife had an interesting thought when I read her your post; that in the old days careers were allowed to ebb and flow and had the support of a studio system/safety net to a certain extent. Now a days it's every man (and woman) for themselves and if you happen to trip up and stumble along the way it's 'too bad, see you later' time...
@ altroquando - Buon giorno and welcome! I'm glad you finally rediscovered us...and I agree with you 100%..this IS a wonderful album of spy music!
So true, Rocket! I agree 100%. Plus, of course, the method of distributing music has forever been altered by the internet (irony alert). And with independent and even chain record stores going extinct, there's yet another way music and musicians don't reach a mass audience. So good solid careers in music just don't exist like in "the old days" I guess. Again, nice of you to pay tribute to this artist.
Thanks Rocket. I've got this record somewhere - but no turntable to play it or way to move it onto the computer. As I recall there are several of these for the early Bond movies - all very nice to listen to. Bob
