This one's especially for Rizbum! (and anyone else who might be interested in 70's blaxploitation sounds) I JUST stumbled onto this one a few weeks ago in a thrift store and it's 'far out brother!'
As a kid I bought the soundtrack to 'Superfly' (as well as the paperback tie-in'...funny story: I remember in 6th grade a local police sheriff came to talk to us about drugs and little 11 year old me trying to be cool by spouting off words like: 'coke, smack, horse, 'H', etc. that I had read in that very book. Needless to say the cop asked to speak to me after and wanted to know where I had picked up such a vocabulary...I may have been a snot nosed kid in white suburbia but baby! I was 'down' with the plight of my 'brothers' in the ghetto!...ahhhh you have to love the 70's....I still smile when I think of the look on that poor cop's face)
Anyway I digress...back to THIS album...Curtis is at his finest here and using a LOT of sounds that would find their way onto his Superfly soundtrack the very next year. The 'Live' club quality of this recording is amazing...primarily due to the constant buzz and feedback...but don't worry...there's no two drink minimum here at 'The Rocket Pad'.
lp rip @320 w/ART!
